Mel Gibson Makes ‘Big, Wacky Viking Epic’

Mel Gibson is no stranger to swinging an axe around and drinking a lot so we weren’t too surprised when we heard that he’s next directing job will be on a viking movie.

In a recent press conference for Edge of Darkness, Gibson revealed some details about the project.

“I think it’s going to be in the English that would have been spoken back then, and Old Norse.”

Any chance you could make a film in English, Mel? Not that I don’t love dead languages but this will be your third, give us a break. Leonardo Di Caprio is also attached to star in the project but we’re guessing he’ll be on the side of the Brits, we can’t really picture him on a longboat storming British shores.

Gibson told Collider.com, “…But that was the first big, epic, wacky idea I ever had was to show Viking real.”

“I want a Viking to scare you. I don’t want a Viking to say, “I’m going to die with a sword in my hand.” I don’t want to hear that. It pulls the rug out from under you. I want to see somebody who I have never seen before speaking low guttural German who scares the living shit out of me coming up to my house. What is that like? What would that have been like?”

Fair enough; scary speaking, axe wielding vikings it is.
