The leaves have changed, the air is colder and I start to get that familiar, itchy, twitchy feeling. Where I need to get my hands on a pumpkin before I explode and start carving bananas or potatoes, or whatever I happen to have in my kitchen.
Every year I carve several pumpkins with a pop culture reference – movie characters, Disney themes, Harry Potter and classic horror images too. Here are a few of my past pumpkin designs to inspire your 2018 Halloween carvings.

Disney’s Peter Pan pumpkin carving

Disney’s Peter Pan silhouette with Tinkerbell carved on the other side of the pumpkin.

A four-sided Nightmare Before Christmas Halloween pumpkin! Don’t carve just one side and waste the rest of the space – plus, this way you get a design from wherever you look.

The Hatbox ghost from the famous Haunted Mansion ride in Walt Disney World.

The ice princess herself, Elsa from Disney’s Frozen.

And a haunted bell hop from the iconic Tower of Terror ride in Walt Disney World.

A Harry Potter-themed pumpkin, carved with the golden snitch and the phrase “I open at the close”.

A more classic Halloween pumpkin with a couple of green glow sticks inside surrounded by autumn leaves.

For a while I started carving some of my favourite west end musicals into pumpkins for Halloween, starting with The Lion King.

The Phantom of the Opera mask (I did the musical ones for my old work in my own time, the official Phantom of the Opera team liked this image so much they even used it on their social media).

Wicked the Musical was a fun challenge to carve into a pumpkin, to create light and shade.

My photography got better over time! Here’s one for the musical sensation, Hamilton, as it was opening on the West End.

This is of course for the Disney musical Aladdin, again it was two-sided. using candles and dry leaves as decorated can be dangerous – do not do this around children, be safe and use electric candle imitations when you can.

Another Harry Potter pumpkin but this time for The Cursed Child play in London’s West End.

And finally, a pumpkin for The Book of Mormon. A fun one that looks easier than it was, the small the text, the harder the carve. Again, always be safe when you have candles and leaves near each other.
Hope my pumpkins inspire your 2018 designs, happy Halloween. Yes, I know it’s early, but planning takes time!
