Christine McConnell was an Instagram sensation, creating spooktacular bakes and sweet treats with a dark twist. Now she’s the star of a brand new Netflix show, just in time for Halloween, The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell.
In a beautiful but creepy house, Christine is the glamorous baker who finds the darker side of life to be the sweetest. She brings an assortment of weird and wonderful creatures into her home, like Rose, the resurrected racoon, Rankle the ancient mummified cat, and Edgar, the werewolf – all brought to life by the Henson Alternative team.
The show is being touted as a mash-up between The Addams Family and Martha Stewart, or if Marilyn Munster had a cooking show. These descriptions are more than fair, but throw in Sesame Street and Netflix’s new show The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and you’re even closer. The show even got the Stranger Things, 80s style treatment for its poster.

Although she’s most famous for her beastly bakes, Christine also ventures into dress-making (inspired by semi-regular guest star, Queen of burlesque, Dita Von Teese), candle-making and general homemade craft projects.
How it’s taken anyone this long to create a show like this is almost shocking. The love of the family-friendly gothic style of The Addams Family and The Munsters has never truly been revived, yet their impact on pop-culture is ever-present. This is exactly the type of show I would have loved to watch when I was a little ghoul.
