Disney Release Pirates 4 Plot Details

In a recent press release, Disney revealed the plot of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which seems redundant as someone on the production has been leaving copies of the script in London cafes.

That’s right, it’s not just politicians who can leave sensitive material in public places, this person left the script for the new movie lying around in a central London cafe.

Unfortunately, the person who found it was one of those upstanding citizen types and they handed it into The Sun who in turn handed it over to Disney. Spoil sports.

Anywho, the official press release that we can actually give you reads like so:

“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise –this time in Disney Digital 3D(TM). In this action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise, Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), and he’s not sure if it’s love–or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth.

When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.

Geoffery Rush reprises his role as the vengeful Captain Hector Barbossa, and Kevin R. McNally returns as Captain Jack’s longtime comrade Joshamee Gibbs. Sam Claflin stars as a stalwart missionary, while Astrid Berges-Frisbey is transformed into a mysterious mermaid.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will film on the islands of Kauai and Oahu, Hawaii, followed by locations and studio work in the United Kingdom and Los Angeles.

Sounds good to us!

Will Disney’s First Marvel Movie Be Dr. Strange?

Marvel Studios have hired a writing team for a big screen adaptation of Doctor Strange, and would likely be the first Marvel movie made under Disney’s control.

According to Deadline Hollywood, Conan The Barbarian writers Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer have been hired to pen the script which could mean that the script for Conan is an impressive one.

Doctor Strange was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and first appeared in Strange Tales in 1963. The story of the good doctor begins when he’s Stephen Strange, a world-renowned but selfish neurosurgeon whose hands are damaged in a car accident.

After losing the ability to perform surgery, Stephen searches the world for a cure and winds up learning the mystic arts in the Himalayas.

A movie version of Doctor Strange has been in development hell for a long time until Marvel bought back the rights and are now pushing forward with the project.

Disney’s Prom Movie Gets Cast

Disney are ramping up their plans for a live-action movie based around the ups and downs of a high school prom by adding some cast members.

The film, said to be Disney’s attempt at a John Hughes movies, is called Prom and will star relatively unknown actors in the leads to bolster the films franchise potential.

Thomas McDonell, Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights – pictured), Danielle Campbell, Nolan Sotillo, Yin Chang (Gossip Girl), Jared Kusnitz (Surviving Suburbia), Nicholas Braun (10 Things I Hate About You), Ben Esler (The Pacific), Kylie Bunbury and DeVaughn Nixon are all making up the current cast list.

Recognise those names? Me neither, so hopefully we’ll get some fresh talent and not whatever the Disney Channel is churning out these days. But is Prom ready to take over the reigns from High School Musical?

Adam McKay In Talks To Direct The Boys

Some graphic novels were meant to be made into movies but, as much as I love Garth Ennis’ ‘The Boys’, I’m not sure this is one of them.

The novels are set in a world where superheroes are revered, but behind the scenes they behave more like the Guns and Roses during a particularly heavy drinking session. They’re out of control so the US Government call in The Boys – a team of badasses who want to take the ’supes’ down a peg or two, usually by removing limbs.

If you thought Kick-Ass was too violent and used far too many expletives then you should probably leave The Boys well alone as it might just blow your mind. Or make you throw-up.

But regardless of our own personal feelings and strong compulsion to up-chuck, Step Brothers’ director Adam McKay is currently in talks to helm the project, according to Collider.

You might be thinking that McKay seems like an odd choice to direct such dark material, and you’d be right. Nothing on McKay’s CV indicates that he’s the man for the job but it’s always nice to see people trying something new.

On a side-note, one of the characters is Wee Hughie whose appearance is based on our very own Simon Pegg but there’s no word on whether he’s involved or not yet.

The biggest problem facing this production will most likely be how the writers will go about toning down the violence, sex, swearing and general debauchery that the novels are steeped in. Will a watered down version of The Boys be worth the effort?

Cast Approached For Cloud Atlas

David Mitchell’s beloved novel is being adapted by director Tom Tykwer, the man behind Run Lola Run.

An interesting cast is being lined up: Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, James McAvoy, Ian McKellen and Natalie Portman have all been offered roles, according to Production Weekly. This seems remarkably star-studded for early negotiations but we’ll watch over the coming week as these names gradually fall away from the project.

The plot of the books sounds ultimately unfilmable: the story spans about 1000 years and follows six different character’s own stories. Portman has been attached to the project on and off for the past year but now seems a bit more invested in the project.

The Wachowski Bros. are set to produce the project but I’m just hoping that they’re not allowed to touch the script. I don’t want another Matrix 1 and 2.

Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead Gets Remake

What’s that? You’ve never heard of this movie? Well gather round children, you’re about to get schooled.

The original movie saw a mother leave her five kids in the charge of an elderly but hard-as-nails babysitter. When said childminder goes and dies of a heart attack, it’s up to eldest child Sue Ellen (a fresh faced Christina Applegate) to provide for the family. She scams her way into a top job in fashion and tries not to get busted.

The crazy fashion alone makes this movie worth a watch. Honestly, it’s not the best movie, but it’s fun and original with everything we’ve come to expect from an 90s comedy so, of course, it’s being remade.

This remake particularly stings as it’s a personal favourite of mine but also because this new version will probably end up starring Hilary Duff or some such nonsense.

Hot-shot producer Mark Gordon is behind the movie, according to Pajiba, and he’s also the man behind the upcoming Private Benjamin remake as well as the equally pointless Don’t Look Now retooling.

I’ve got our fingers crossed that Gordon can make something fun and original happen but we won’t hold our breath.

Bullock And Reynolds Reunite For Action Comedy

Green-card romcom The Proposal saw Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds turn up the heat for some slapstick comedy and naked bodyslams and in the process they created our favourite onscreen partnership of last year.

Now it’s confirmed that the pair will be at it again in an action comedy tentatively titled Most Wanted. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bullock will play a suspect being escorted on her way to court by Ryan Reynold’s FBI agent. The two are ambushed en route and have to go on the run together.

The Proposal director Anne Fletcher will return as well as writer Pete Chiarelli and producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. Fletcher’s become a hot ticket around Hollywood as she’s also on board to direct Enchanted 2.

After having a tough time in the tabloids recently, Sandra Bullock has decided to show the press that she’s not going to just disappear after her very public divorce from her cheating skank of a husband Jesse James.

At the MTV Movie Awards, the same one that saw the return of Les Grossman, Bullock showed up to accept gongs for The Proposal. While accepting the Generation award, she wound up having a smooch with Ryan’s missus, Scarlett Johansson.

Stanley Tucci Joins Captain America Cast

Captain America: The First Avenger is shaping up nicely, especially since we got some nice costume work, and the cast list is growing by the minute.

The latest actor to make the cut is The Lovely Bones star Stanley Tucci who, according to Heat Vision Blog, has been cast as Dr. Erskine. The good doctor is the man responsible for turning Steve Rogers into Captain America using a super soldier serum created by Erskine in Project Rebirth. Well, that’s how things went down in the original comics but no one’s confirmed the exact plotline yet so we’ll have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, Tucci has also got a role in Burlesque – a movie I’ve been practising my dance moves for. It’s a musical which isn’t exactly known to be in Tucci’s wheelhouse but who knows, maybe he’ll surprise us.

Tucci will appear alongside Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson when Captain America: The First Avenger hits screens in 2011.

Cruise Confirms Grossman Movie

If you saw the hilarious Tropic Thunder then you might be familiar with the overweight, foul mouthed dancing producer that is Les Grossman AKA Tom Cruise.

The character was the breakout star of the movie and now Cruise has confirmed that Grossman is getting his shot at the big time with his own film.

Talking to E Online after the MTV movie awards, Tom said, “We’re working on it. Yup, we’re working on it.”

The biggest surprise of the night was a when Cruise appeared on stage in full Grossman costume and proceeded to bust a move in his own unique style. He was soon joined on stage by The Back-Up Plan’s Jennifer Lopez and the pair danced up a storm with a routine that was full of grinding and booty spankin’. Nice.
