Daniel Radcliffe ‘Harry’s Like A Roman Emperor’

Though it’s not out until Harry Potter, every scrap of news gets me more and more excited about the penultimate instalment of the series.

Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson spoke to Yahoo! Movies and spilled the beans on what it’s been like filming The Deathly Hallows Part I.

The films always differ from the books but we do know that we’re going to be seeing Harry, Ron and Hermione running across the English countryside looking for the elusive horcruxes.

Here’s what Radcliffe had to say about the movie.

“The main thing is we’re not at Hogwarts. It makes a huge difference. It gives the film a totally different feel. It might take people a while to adjust to this one. Part One is a road movie. And the action is going to be pretty extraordinary.”

The dynamics between the main trio are strained in the next movie and Harry’s leading his friends into an uncertain future.

“Harry is like a Roman Emperor in his last days and everyone is turning on him. Harry is completely paranoid about what Ron and Hermione are saying about him. He thinks they’re doubting his leadership, but while he is asking people that, he himself is doubting his leadership. He has no plan, so he is pretty useless.”

Emma Watson seemed to enjoy a little break from Hogwarts,

“It was so nice to be outside, in the forest and out of the studio – running about. It was so much fun. Because it’s such an emotional, heavy film, it was nice to get out and do some action stuff.

They were very fun scenes to film. Being out of Hogwarts just makes it really different. It just gives the audience a whole different experience. I’m so excited to see it together.”

It sounds like they were off on a jolly holiday but Watson thinks otherwise.

“It’s challenging in every way – physically, emotionally. They’re away from home. They’re isolated, they don’t have any news. They don’t know what they’re doing. They’re pulling at shreds. Dumbledore had hardly left them anything to go on.”

Hobo With A Shotgun Will Star Rutger Hauer

You might not like Grindhouse movies but you have to admit, they have the best titles.

Back in 2007, in the promotional hoo-ha for Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse double feature, the SXSW film festival ran a competition for fake trailers to run before the movie. Jason Eisner and co won with their entry called Hobo With A Shotgun that followed a homeless man who cleans up the streets by killing drug dealers, paedophiles and corrupt cops.

Ain’t It Cool News are reporting that the movie starts filming tomorrow with Blade Runner star Rutger Hauer in the title role. The whole Grindhouse experience has proved pretty popular as Machete, a fake trailer made by Rodriguez is also in production.

It sounds like a fun project but it’s not the entry I would have chosen – I’m still waiting for someone to make Dead Noon.

Check out the trailer for Hobo With A Shotgun and let me know what you think.

Olivia Williams Grateful For Role In The Ghost

Political thriller The Ghost is out this week and star Olivia Williams has commented on how thankful she is to have a role like this.

Williams stars as the wife of fictional MP Adam Lang, played by Pierce Brosnan, who closely resembles former PM Tony Blair.

Talking to The Observer, Williams spoke of how grateful she is to have a meaty part to play at her age, not too mention a great director such as Roman Polanski. Despite his legal problems AKA underage, unconsenual sex with a girl a few decades ago, he’s a good director.

“If you attempt for the moment to clear your mind of the modern parallels, the character on the page is just a f**king gift. They just don’t come along that often, women of that, of my, age. And, without giving away too much, to have Roman Polanski create your denouement for two hours – again, thank you, Lord.”

On Polanski’s reputation as a hard-to-please director, Williams was understanding.

“Of course I knew Roman’s work, but also knew his reputation as being very tough on actors. Fortunately, the day before I went on set, Ewan did an impersonation of him doing his screaming fit, so when it first happened it wasn’t quite the stab to the heart.

Roman first shouted at me when I was doing the weeping shagging scene, which is always a nightmare combination, and he came at me when I was naked in the bed, shouting,’ No, no, no’, head in his hands. It can be unnerving. And then he just moved the pillow. About three inches.”

Without commenting on Polanski’s house arrest, Williams seems grateful but glad that it’s over.

“It was for all of us I think a hard but rewarding experience, to be looked back on with smiles. And for me, always hoping to look for an interesting role… at my age, to be able to say something other than, ‘Dinner’s ready, honey’ was an absolute gift.”

Rachel Weisz Wanted Masturbation Scene In Agora

It’s not often that a masturbation scene is requested by an actor. It’s even more rare that it comes from a woman, so we were surprised to hear that Alejandro Amenabar, director of Agora, turned down Rachel Weisz’s request.

Honestly, if Rachel Weisz came up to you and asked you if she could get handy with herself while you filmed it, would you say no?

While I’m sure that it’s a good decision for the film not to include the scene, Weisz was adamant that it would have been beneficial to the film.

She told The Sunday Times that,

“He wouldn’t go for it. I begged him. I wanted to know about that stuff. What’s up? What’s her sexuality? Where’s her deviancy?”

Weisz plays Hypatia, a philosopher and atheist who’s in a Roman controlled Egypt at the time of a Christian surge. But Weisz was disappointed that her character wasn’t that saucy considering that the Roman’s had a thing for debauchery.

“There’s a style of acting that can come with period films where everybody just freezes up. But they were drinking and f**king and doing maths or whatever else they were doing. They were just people.”

And how about Weisz’s suggestion?

“I actually told Alejandro they should shoot a scene where she was looking at the stars and masturbating. I suggested a PG version, where her hand just went out of frame, and you’re watching her come, looking at the stars.”

We like the way you think Weisz, we like it a lot.

American Pie 4 Gets Writers

Back in the day, American Pie was the funniest thing going when it came to teen comedy but by the third movie we were done. Unfortunately the studios weren’t and continued to churn out sub-par sequels, now they’re back at it with a sequel to the original trilogy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg have signed on for writing duties, taking a break from penning the Harold and Kumar movies.

The premise for the movie is being kept under wraps as deals to bring back the original cast aren’t finalised yet but it’s suggested that a couple of them are interested. Chris Klein, Jason Biggs, Thomas Ian Nicholas and Eddie Kaye Thomas played the original group of friends on a mission to lose their virginity and they haven’t got a lot on right now so they’re probably OK to sign up.

Sean William Scott and Alyson Hannigan fared the best in their post-Pie careers but Hannigan is busy with How I Met Your Mother though could probably fit the film in her schedule.

The real question should be is will Stifler’s mom return?

Universal Say Yes To More Johnny English

It’s been seven years since we last saw inept spy Johnny English but now Universal have made a deal to bring him back to the big screen.

Variety are reporting that an August start date is likely for a sequel to the Rowan Atkinson comedy.

The original cost $40 million to produce and though it fared poorly in the US, it made a killing in worldwide takings. It looks like Atkinson will definitely be back but there’s no word on Natalie Imbruglia or any other cast members as of yet.

St. Trinian’s director Oliver Parker is on board to direct with Mr. Bean’s Holiday screenwriter Hamish McColl penning the script.

Bill Condon In Final Talks For Breaking Dawn

After making up a shortlist of heavyweight directors, Summit Entertainment could be close to finally picking a director for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

I previously reported that Gus Van Sant, Sofia Coppola and Bill Condon were in the running and it looks like Bill has won the race.

It’s not definite yet but Variety is reporting that Dreamgirls director Bill is in final discussions about taking on directing duties for the final film of the vampire franchise. But if the rumours of a planned split of the final movie into two then he’ll have to sign on for both as part of the deal.

This will probably mean that his planned Salmon Fishing In The Yemen, an adaptation of Paul Torday’s novel, will have to take a backseat while Bill directs moody teenage vampires.

The Toxic Avenger Gets Remake

It’s been a while since we had a movie about someone mutating due to falling in a vat of toxic waste so the remake of The Toxic Avenger comes just in time to stop us forgetting about this classic trope.

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that the 1984 camp classic is being remade now that a deal has been made by producer Akiva Goldsmith to handle a remake.

The original story followed teen misfit Melvin who’s bullied by the wealthy clients of the health club he works at. After a run in with some toxic waste, Melvin mutates into the Toxic Avenger who cleans up the city by killing any criminal that crosses his path.

According to Deadline, the people behind the new movie, “intend to turn Toxie into a green superhero for these environmentally conscious times.”

Hmmm. Sounds preachy but I’ll reserve judgement until I see what kind of mishapen makeup they’re going to give ‘Toxie’. He may have been hideously ugly in the original but he still got some from Sara. Granted she was blind but so is love man.

War of The Gods Gets Title Change Plus More Cast Members

While it continues to gain cast members, Tarsem Singh’s War of The Gods seems to have some trouble holding on to a title.

The project was previously named Dawn of War which became War of The Gods. Now it will be called Immortals. Why? No idea but I imagine it’s an attempt to distance the film from Clash of The Titans.

According to Slash Film, Immortals just got a heavyweight in the shape of John Hurt who’ll be taking on the role of Zeus. If the title doesn’t do the trick then casting Hurt as King of the Gods will definitely set this movie apart from Clash.

Isabel Lucas has also signed on to play goddess of wisdom and strategy, Athena. You might not recognise the name but Lucas played Alice the Decepticon Pretender in Transformers 2: Revenge of The Fallen and she starred in Aussie soap Home and Away.

I know that bright young things playing Gods seems like an attractive concept but would you believe 25-year-old Lucas as Athena? Drop a comment down below.

Tron Legacy Sequel Already Greenlit

Despite having to wait until December to see Tron Legacy, those clever folks at Disney have already given the go-ahead for a sequel.

According to Heat Vision Blog, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, who can usually be found penning scripts for Lost, have begun hashing out ideas for a sequel.

So far, these boys are the only people attached to the project and there’s no word on whether Legacy director Joseph Kosinski will be returning. No current cast members have signed on for a sequel just yet but we at least know that there will be a new producer. Sean Bailey was the producer for Legacy but has since been promoted to Disney’s President of Production.

Though the project is still at a really early stage, it could mean that Disney are gearing up for a Tron trilogy if they’re willing to toss around ideas for a sequel before the first movie is even released. Usually a sequel is dependent on the first being a success and if it’s not then a follow-up won’t be on the cards, right Golden Compass?

In summation, there’s no cast, no producer and no director but maybe an idea for a script? That’ll do for me!
