The Runaways Trailer

For those of you that aren’t familiar with the music of The Runaways, you can get yourself educated by watching Twilight’s Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning rock it out as the girls who changed the music industry forever.

Joan Jett (Stewart) wants to start an all girl rock band and soon finds that Cherie Currie (Fanning) is perfect lead singer material. With their band The Runaways, they navigate the 70s rock scene and start doing things their own way.

But the life of touring, drugs, fans and the music begin to take their toll on Cherie. The film follows their meteoric rise to fame from 1975 10 1977 showing the peaks and the pitfalls of success.

Oh and a warning, you’ll be singing the lyrics to Cherrybomb all day long.

Beware The Curse Of The Oscar!

With this weekend’s Oscars looming, I couldn’t help but wonder who would be suffering from the infamous Oscar curse after this year’s ceremony.

Some industry figures start to make terrible decisions after they get their hands on a golden baldy. That’s not to say that they never make a good movie again, but there are more clunkers on their CV than there should be.

Let’s take a look back at those who have been afflicted by this terrible curse.

CUBA GOODING JR.

Sometimes you hear an actor’s name and you can’t help thinking, ‘whatever happened to them?’ Well after winning an Oscar for Jerry Maguire, Cuba Gooding Jr. is currently shouting ‘Show me the money!’ to his agent as he seems to be doing a lot of paycheck jobs. The passable ones areInstinct, Men of Honour and American Gangster, but he must have been really strapped for cash when he agreed to be in Norbit.

Let’s have a look at him when he was still on top.

Tangled Teaser Trailer

Though I’m still cut up about the change of title, I still turn into a giddy schoolgirl at each piece of news on Disney’s new film Tangled.

Previously called Rapunzel, the film tells the tale of a long-haired lovely who’s been trapped in a tower for 18 years. But her world is turned upside down when she encounters an infamous bandit named Flynn Rider.

Romance, adventure and hair related issues quickly follow. So far, only a few characters have been announced but we know that Mandy Moore will voice Rapunzel and Chuck star Zachary Levi will voice Flynn.

While there isn’t too much information about the film at the moment, you can catch the teaser trailer for Tangled on the The Princess And The Frog Blu Ray.

Or you could watch it right here.

Worst Movie Dads Ever

To honour this week’s release of Robert De Niro’s new film, Everybody’s Fine, I have decided to look at some movie parents. But instead of nice mums and dads who can at least remember your name and birthday, I’m showcasing the very worst of film role models.

Well, I’ve actually just targeted movie fathers this time (I’ve got some daddy issues we need to work through).

This is our list of worst movie fathers ever…

HOMER SIMPSON – THE SIMPSON’S MOVIE

Now you might be thinking that Homer’s a helpless buffoon who doesn’t mean any harm. But he’s actually an alcoholic man-child who’s obviously in need of some parenting lessons. He rarely spends quality time with the kids and when they screw up, his solution is to strangle them. In The Simpson’s Movie he drags his family to Alaska and decides he’s too selfish to save Springfield from imminent destruction. He’s quite a guy.

Oh and he’s almost single-handedly given Lisa ‘middle child syndrome’. One of the worst possible role-models from movies and TV, this is Homer telling Bart and Lisa his philosophy on work.

Micmacs Trailer

From the magical French brain of Jean-Pierre Jeunet, director of Amélie, comes Micmacs.

When Bazil is hit in the head by a stray bullet, he finds himself living on the streets with imminent death hanging over his head. But a kindly group of misfits adopt him and welcome him into their strange little world.

But Bazil is intent on getting revenge on the people that made the bullet and the landmine that killed his father many years ago. So with the help of his new friends and their unique skills, he sets about detroying them.

The trailer doesn’t quite do it justice but it might whet your appetite enough to go see it when it comes out on 26th February 2010.

Top 5 Movie Presidents

Right when a country is down on its luck, when all hope seems lost, people turn to their leaders for reassurance that everything is gonna be alright.

All they need is a rousing speech, a sense of pride and an unbeatable spirit, and having the US army to back you up never hurts. In movies it’s always the President that can save the day by making the tough decision at the right time, shame they can’t do it in real life, eh George?

Of course they’re not admirable heroes every time, yet somehow we still get a kick out of them. Just because you illegally invaded a country and bombed the holy hell out of it, doesn’t mean you don’t have comic value.

In honour of Invictus, and Morgan Freeman’s Oscar nominated portrayal of Nelson Mandela, we have decided to give you a rundown of my favourite movie Presidents.

Oh and I opted out of including Harrison Ford on my list – he’ll always be a given with me! Do It!

The Ghost Trailer

Roman Polanski may be a very naughty man but we have to admit, his next movie looks good.

Ewan McGregor plays a ghostwriter hired to write a shady former Prime Minister’s memoirs but the more he finds out, the more of a security risk he becomes. Pierce Brosnan stars as the the PM Adam Lang whose dodgy dealings have earned him the label of war criminal, but will his ghostwriter uncover his dirty little secrets or some whopping great lies?

Sex And The City’s Kim Cattrall and Dollhouse’s Olivia Williams star as the ladies in Lang’s life.

Despite Polanski having some trouble with the law during pre-production he was still very much involved in the project and was adamant that the film should be completed.

Wall Street 2 Teaser Trailer

Wrinkly wonder Michael Douglas returns this year as money-grabbing banker Gordon Gekko in Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, but this time he’s got company.

In this new teaser trailer, we can see Shia ‘dead behind the eyes’ Labeouf accompanying Douglas around town with a little help from An Education’s Carey Mulligan.

IMDB describes the plot as ‘As the global economy teeters on the brink of disaster, a young Wall Street trader partners with disgraced former Wall Street corporate raider Gordon Gekko on a two-tiered mission: To alert the financial community to the coming doom, and to find out who was responsible for the death of the young trader’s mentor.’

While we’re still in the clutch of the recession, here’s hoping this might give a little insight into the mind of a banker and why exactly they truly believe that ‘Greed is good.’

You can catch Wall Street 2 in cinemas from 24th September.

Create Your Own Avatar! We’re Blue Da Ba Dee Da Ba Da…

While Avatar was very impressive, I’m becoming tired of hearing about it at every turn.

But when I saw this video on how someone can make themselves look like an Na’vi, I was suddenly intrigued. Plus I’m already planning Comicon costumes so it’s been good inspiration.

The video was made by Peter Ammentorp Lund but he’s not the only one out there doing this, search around and you’ll find some other good ones but Peter clearly has the skills to pay the bills.

And while he may not go into detail about how he did it you should stay tuned, he’s considering writing a detailed tutorial.

Oh and props to SlashFilm for bringing this video to the world’s attention.

When we’ve got a spare few days we are totally giving that a try.
