War of The Gods Gets Title Change Plus More Cast Members

While it continues to gain cast members, Tarsem Singh’s War of The Gods seems to have some trouble holding on to a title.

The project was previously named Dawn of War which became War of The Gods. Now it will be called Immortals. Why? No idea but I imagine it’s an attempt to distance the film from Clash of The Titans.

According to Slash Film, Immortals just got a heavyweight in the shape of John Hurt who’ll be taking on the role of Zeus. If the title doesn’t do the trick then casting Hurt as King of the Gods will definitely set this movie apart from Clash.

Isabel Lucas has also signed on to play goddess of wisdom and strategy, Athena. You might not recognise the name but Lucas played Alice the Decepticon Pretender in Transformers 2: Revenge of The Fallen and she starred in Aussie soap Home and Away.

I know that bright young things playing Gods seems like an attractive concept but would you believe 25-year-old Lucas as Athena? Drop a comment down below.

Tron Legacy Sequel Already Greenlit

Despite having to wait until December to see Tron Legacy, those clever folks at Disney have already given the go-ahead for a sequel.

According to Heat Vision Blog, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, who can usually be found penning scripts for Lost, have begun hashing out ideas for a sequel.

So far, these boys are the only people attached to the project and there’s no word on whether Legacy director Joseph Kosinski will be returning. No current cast members have signed on for a sequel just yet but we at least know that there will be a new producer. Sean Bailey was the producer for Legacy but has since been promoted to Disney’s President of Production.

Though the project is still at a really early stage, it could mean that Disney are gearing up for a Tron trilogy if they’re willing to toss around ideas for a sequel before the first movie is even released. Usually a sequel is dependent on the first being a success and if it’s not then a follow-up won’t be on the cards, right Golden Compass?

In summation, there’s no cast, no producer and no director but maybe an idea for a script? That’ll do for me!

Whip It Review: Rock And Roller Skates

WHIP IT (12A): On General Release 7th April

She might have started out as little Gertie in E.T. but Drew Barrymore’s a big girl now and after a decade of producing, she’s finally stepped behind the camera to direct Whip It.

Though Drew hasn’t given up on acting just yet, after seeing Whip It I hope she sticks with her new vocation because she’s actually pretty good at it.

Bliss Cavendar (Ellen Page) is a misfit teen who’s fed up with small town life in Bodeen, Texas. Her mother Brooke (Marcia Gay Harden) constantly tries to get Bliss involved in beauty pageants but indie-chick Bliss has other ideas. When she discovers a roller derby in Austin with all-girl teams, Bliss tries out to be a member of The Hurl Scouts outfit. Do It!

The Infidel Review: Jew-Ish

INFIDEL (15): On General Release From Friday 9th April

Religious humour is always treacherous ground – half of the audience will be extremely offended and the other half are heathens who will just laugh and get over it.

But writer David Baddiel doesn’t seem to give a flying falafel about offending anyone and goes right for the funny bone. For the majority of this film, his aim is dead on.

In The Infidel, Omid Djalili stars in his first leading role as Mahmud Nasir, a not-so-strict Muslim whose penchant for yelling at cabbies gets him in a rift with Jewish American driver Lenny (Richard Schiff). But when Mahmud finds out that not only is he adopted but his parents were Jews, he finds Lenny to be an unlikely friend and mentor. Do It!

Dinner For Schmucks Trailer

From Jay Roach, the director of Austin Powers and Meet The Parents, comes Dinner For Schmucks, a tale of weird people and the pleasure we get from taking the mickey out of them.

Tim (Paul Rudd) is out to impress his boss in order to clinch a big promotion but it turns out that all Tim has to do is attend his boss’ annual dinner party.

It sounds simple enough until his boss requests that Tim brings along a complete idiot so that he and his co-workers can point and laugh at him. Enter Steve Carrell as Barry, a moronic IRS agent whose hobbies include recreating artistic masterpieces with dead mice.

Can Tim bring himself to invite Barry to a party where he knows he’ll be humiliated just so he can get promoted? Probably.

You can see Dinner For Schmucks when it hits UK cinemas on 20th August. Check out the trailer and let us know what you think by dropping a comment down below.

Anna Friel Joins Bradley Cooper In Dark Fields

After wowing crowds on the West End in Breakfast At Tiffany’s, Anna Friel will be back on the big screen now that she’s signed up for the Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro thriller Dark Fields.

The Hollywood Reporter has claimed that Friel will be playing Cooper’s ex-wife alongside Abbie Cornish who is rumoured to be playing his current girlfriend.

The film follows Cooper as a struggling writer who discovers a new superdrug that gives him everything he wants. But as the side effects start to take hold and Cooper must hold onto his sanity.

THR describes the side effects that the character experiences as “including “trip-switching,” a phenomenon in which time moves with a stop-motion quality.” It’s not known if actual stop-motion techniques will be used but it should be an interesting effect nonetheless.

Friel’s last cinematic outing Land of The Lost wasn’t met with too much enthusiasm but here’s hoping that a thriller will serve her better. It’s safe to say that none of this would be happening had Friel not starred in the hit fantasy series Pushing Daisies, which opened her up to US audiences, but she couldn’t ride that pony forever and luckily the film world seems to have taken her in.

Friel has more movies on her slate than TV as she’ll be starring in London Boulevard, a Brit movie with Ray Winstone and Woody Allen’s You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger.

The Infidel Trailer

Iranian funnyman Omid Djalili stars in David Baddiel’s religious comedy The Infidel.

Mahmud is a lapsed Muslim who loves a bacon butty and thinks it’s funny to teach his young daughter racist slurs. After his mother’s death, Mahmud discovers that he was adopted and that he’s actually Jewish. Having never been particularly religious, he finds he’s totally lost and has no idea how to be Jewish.

He finds a friend and a tutor in Lenny Goldberg (Richard Schiff) who teaches him what it means to be Jewish e.g. how to tell a joke at a bar mitzvah and the proper pronunciation of ‘Oy’.

When Mahmud’s son reveals that his fiancée has a new stepfather who just happens to be a muslim extremist, Mahmud must choose whether to be a Jew or a Muslim.

You can catch The Infidel in cinemas from 9th April, but for now you can check out the trailer.

Resident Evil: Afterlife Trailer

If you’re getting a sudden craving for brains then you must be picking up on the fact that Resident Evil: Afterlife is nearly upon us. Well, I say nearly but it’s not out until September.

We’ll be joining a super charged professional ass-kicker Alice and a few friends in LA where they’re trying to bust a convict out of zombie jail.

But with the dastardly Umbrella Corporation still running, can they complete their mission before Alice is captured?

According to the trailer, the movie has been filmed with fancypants technology courtesy of James Cameron. As long as the filmmakers didn’t take any storytelling advice from him, we’ll be OK.

The movie might well look good up on the big screen but we’re wondering why they’ve chosen the most bland looking clips to put into the trailer and why it doesn’t give even a hint of plotline away.

After seeing the trailer, I’m not too jazzed about seeing the movie but give it a look and let me know what you think: drop a comment down below.

City Of War: The Story Of John Rabe Review: A Good German

CITY OF WAR – THE STORY OF JOHN RABE (15): On Limited Release From 2nd April

Based on the diaries of John Rabe, a German-born member of the Nazi party, City of War follows the events of the 1937 Nanking Massacre, also known as The Rape of Nanking, by Japanese troops.

It’s disturbing source material I know, but it made for a compelling and deeply emotional war movie.

Rabe is a fairly complacent member of the Nazi party living in China and he’s grown fond of the country and of its people. At the request of the party, he and wife Dora are scheduled to return to Berlin. Do It!

Iron Man 2 Pictures, Posters & Website!

Cue the Black Sabbath music and lots of air guitaring because I’ve got a whole host of Iron Man 2 stuff to show you.

As the movie moves closer to its 30th April release date (ignore what the posters say), I’m getting fully revved up for the movie.

After revealing to the world that he’s Iron Man, Tony Stark must fend off the Government who want their grubby little hands on his suit design.

Whiplash AKA Ivan Vanko is also out for revenge on the Stark family and will stop at nothing to bring Iron Man down.

Lucky for Tony, Rhodes is at his side and he’s suited up as War Machine and Pepper Potts is on hand to, um, answer his fan mail?

First up I’ve got an uber sexy poster of Scarlett Johannson as Black Widow that was unveiled at Wondercon.

Do It!
