Jennifer Lopez To Star In Overboard Remake

It’s been a while since we had a good movie from J-Lo but maybe this will help her shake off the cinematic bad smell that is Gigli.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jenny from the block will be starring in a remake (naturally) of the 1987 Goldie Hawn comedy Overboard.

The original movie sees fancypants socialite Hawn falling off her yacht and nearly drowning. When she awakes with no memory of who she is, single father Kurt Russell convinces her that they’re married and that his kids are also hers.

Hawn and Russell are married in real life but we hope that doesn’t mean that Lopez will be playing opposite her hubby Marc Anthony.

Will Smith is on the producing team and Adam Cooper and Bill Collage have had a hand in penning the script as has the writer of the original movie, Leslie Dixon.

Tim Burton To Make Addams Family 3D Stop Motion

I think the success of Alice In Wonderland has given Tim Burton him a bigger head than the Red Queen.

According to Deadline Hollywood Burton is planning another remake and this time it’s of The Addams’ Family.

Fans of Burton always lamented the fact that he wasn’t the director of the 1991 version and though the film was successful, Burton’s style seemed tailor-made for the source material and now we’ll finally get to see his version.

The concept of the weirdly morose family originated from the cartoons drawn by Charles Addams and these are from what Burton will be drawing on the most. Not only will it see Burton once again using stop-motion effects but he’ll also be working in 3D.

Burton hasn’t used stop-motion since Corpse Bride, which turned out to be less than impressive follow-up to the classic Nightmare Before Christmas. Can he regain his morbid mojo with Morticia and co?

Ivan Reitman Not Directing Ghostbusters 3?

We haven’t seen a Ghostbusters movie since 1989 so people are champing at the bit over the upcoming third instalment.

But this big change to the project could be a huge blow to fans – Ivan Reitman, the original director of the first two movies, might not be back in the director’s chair.

According to Vulture, Columbia Pictures think Reitman is too old at 63 to direct the movie in which they want the old Ghostbusters crew to train a new, younger team.

Wha? This is a worse idea than ‘crossing the streams’.

Apparently it really comes down to a contract that Reitman signed back in the 80s which gives him enormous power over the project. Vulture reports that

“While it’s true that Reitman can’t force Columbia to make Ghostbusters III with him, he can make it nearly impossible for the studio to make the film without him”.

Columbia will also have to deal with Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis as they have the power to kill the project if they don’t like a particular element of the production. In this case, that element is likely to be the choice of director (it’s likely that they’ll stand behind Reitman).

The studio might be worried that Reitman has lost his touch after his last picture, My Super-Ex Girlfriend, bombed but hey, they can’t all be winners. Let’s hope this contract crap gets sorted out quickly, I want to see Slimer back on the big screen sometime this century.

The Spy Next Door Review: James Bland

THE SPY NEXT DOOR (PG): On General Release 19th March

Is it me or does Jackie Chan’s grasp of English get worse as he gets older?

The language barrier was cute at first and made for some great comic moments in Rush Hour, but now it’s just a struggle to understand him.

It was even more of a struggle to understand why the hell he keeps making crappy Western movies. To be fair, The Forbidden Kingdom wasn’t terrible but the rest of them have been pretty dire of late. The Tuxedo, anyone? Do It!

New Poster For Scott Pilgrim vs The World

You may love him or hate him, but we’re all just going have to accept that Michael Cera is Scott Pilgrim.

Not every fan was impressed by the choice to cast Cera in the upcoming adaptation of the comic book Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, but it’s coming anyway so we should try to enjoy it.

Edgar Wright is directing the movie which also stars Mary-Elizabeth Winstead, the Oscar nominated Anna Kendrick, Brandon Routh and Chris Evans.

Here’s the first teaser poster for the movie. Any good? Drop a comment down below and let me know what you think.

Glee Star Jayma Mays Goes Blue For Smurf Movie

I’m secretly hoping that the plans for a Smurf movie would quickly fall apart as it was just another chance to pillage our childhoods but this movie just got my interest.

Glee star Jayma Mays who plays germaphobe Emma Pillsbury, has been confirmed to play the lead human role alongside Neil Patrick Harris.

Mays’ character will be the pregnant wife of Harris who will no doubt have some crazy shenanigans after meeting the Smurfs. The pair will also be working together on Glee when Harris guest stars as Will’s nemesis in an upcoming episode.

The role of Gargamel, previous thought to belong to John Lithgow, has been given to Simpson’s voice actor Hank Azaria. He’s the man of a thousand voices so pulling off Gargamel’s evil laugh shouldn’t be a problem but I was kind of looking forward to seeing Lithgow in the role – he’s Gargamel’s twin!

Megamind Teaser Trailer

Boasting the voices of Will Ferrell and Brad Pitt and from the studio that brought you Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda comes the new animated feature Megamind. The brilliant and diabolical super-villain Megamind has been attempting to conquer Earth for over 20 years but, each time, he’s been thwarted by his arch nemesis, the caped superhero Metro Man.

But all that changes one day when Megamind accidentally kills Metro Man in the throes of one of his evil plans. Suddenly finding himself without a foe to overcome, the despondent evil genius decides that the only way out of his rut is to create a new super rival. He’s a bigger, better and stronger opponent than Metro Man ever was.

When the former good guy begins to wage his own war aimed at destroying the world, Megamind must decide: Can he defeat his own (now) diabolical creation? Can the world’s smartest man make the smart decision for once? Can the Evil Genius switch sides and become the Hero of his own story?

Two New Posters For Stallone’s The Expendables

What is it with ’80s style action films this year?

The Expendables is gonna be a bit tongue in cheek with Stallone’s clever casting of pretty much everyone who likes to kick-ass in their movies, many of whom had their heyday in the ’80s.

Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham and Arnold Schwarzenegger will all be making appearances with the Rocky star.

The film will follow a team of badasses who head into South America to kick out a terrible dictator. It’ll most likely get an August release but in the meantime check out these posters, the first is provided by IGN and the second by Collider.

Summit Search For Directors For Twilight: Breaking Dawn

The decision on whether or not to split the final book of the Twilight series in half is still up in the air, as is the decision on who will direct the movie.

Breaking Dawn is the fourth and final instalment which could well piggy-back on Harry Potter’s idea to split the last book in half.

Summit Entertainment have been putting in a few calls to some Oscar-winning directors in the hopes of bringing the films critical credibility.

According to Entertainment Weekly, those in line are Milk’s director Gus Vant Sant, Marie Antoinette’s Sofia Coppola and Dreamgirls’ Bill Condon.

The directors of the series so far have been mediocre, with only a handful of good films between the three of them, so maybe Summit are hoping some Oscar gold dust will rub off on the series.

Apparently, they’ll be closer to a decision after screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg has finished a script outline to give to the potential directors.

Do any of these directors sound like a good fit? Who would you like to see direct Breaking Dawn?

Rose McGowan Joins Conan Cast

Someone’s cast Rose McGowan and for once it’s not Robert Rodriguez!

For a while it seemed that the only director that was interested in casting McGowan was her ex-boyfriend Rodriguez but now Marcus Nispel has seen her potential, according to Variety.

After it was announced recently that the cast for Nispel’s Conan was starting to be fleshed out comes another addition. McGowan has been cast as an evil half-human, half-witch to star opposite Jason Momoa as Conan.

No stranger to playing a witchy role, McGowan shot to stardom on the hit show Charmed but failed to make an impression on Hollywood after that.

She is still tentatively attached to a movie based on another Conan character Red Sonja which is kinda of bizarre to have her playing these totally different characters from the same universe. Red Sonja’s been in trouble for a while after studio heads didn’t want McGowan for the role as she’s not a big enough name, but maybe Conan will change their minds.
